This is an excellent piece from Ray Dalio, the head honcho at Bridgewater, and his team. It is a 30 minute animated video. A must see if you are interested in how the U.S. economy works, and how economic decisions affect your life.
Through my work over the years, I have come to realize that many people don't understand how the economy really works. As a result of that lack of understanding, I have seen numerous individuals, investors, policy makers and economists make bad choices and give bad advice that has led to too many economic tragedies.
I also constantly hear people argue about what economic policies would be best. I believe that if people first explored how the economy works and could agree on that, they would find it easier to make better decisions, and the world will be a better place.
To help foster the understanding and exploration about how the economic machine works, I set out my template in a 30 minute animated video. While simple, this video addresses controversial issues such as:
• The printing of money and its relationship to inflation
• What a deleveraging is and how one works
• The impact of the budget deficits on the economy
